It’s headed for icon standing, and not only for the reason that of the new facade. Craig Dykers, cofounder of Snøhetta, the architecture organization at the rear of the reboot, stresses that this isn’t just a museum for the common patron: “We wanted to open the door to persons who have little understanding of modern-day art,” he claims, “and offer refinement and focus for longtime art fanatics.” In other words and phrases, this is a lot more than an art repository. It’s a superbly designed encounter, a template for other museums—a mix of flamboyance and subtlety, reverence and playfulness, correct down to the properly seamless tour tutorial application. Some of the updates, exemplified by the shimmering exterior, smack you in the deal with. Other technological innovations, like the sensors that watch the living wall, are subtle or concealed.
