San Francisco genuinely is truly foggy. It’s not a joke. The fog rolls in from the Pacific and floats up towards the beach, stacking up over Twin Peaks right until it drops like an ephemeral avalanche on to the town below … blasting through the Golden Gate as if sprayed from a fireplace extinguisher, erasing the Bridge, obscuring Alcatraz, turning Berkeley into an overcast Pacific Northwest knockoff even as it leaves Oakland in vibrant, shining California daylight. It’s a thing. Lorenzo Montezemolo’s favored position to practical experience it is from Mount Tamalpais, which provides a commanding watch from just north of the town. Seen from the summit at 2,576 feet, the fog rolls through in waves to envelop the area like a shroud. “I feel there is a minor bit of Sleepy Hollow to it,” he says. Montezemolo grew enamored by the city’s ubiquitous fog just after transferring the Bay Region eighteen yrs ago to do the job as a community engineer. The fog was especially thick this August, and he developed a little something of an obsession. Each day just after do the job, Montezemolo drove an hour north from San Mateo to Mount Tamalpais Point out Park to photograph it. He snapped hundreds of pictures, but none very like this a single, made on August 17 for the duration of the comprehensive moon. He and a few friends hiked a steep gravel trail to a place about 1,000 feet over the fog. Montezemolo put his Nikon D810 on tripod and set to do the job. He employed an F8 aperture and a small ISO of 31, with each other with a six-halt neutral density filter that enable him extend the publicity to a few minutes. Montezemolo’s amazing impression exhibits a single of the Bay Area’s most enchanting characteristics, a single that rivals that legendary orange bridge for its attractiveness.
