A new job interview goes in-depth on Nintendo video game designer Shigeru Miyamoto and his procedure when developing games, and primarily on Miyamoto’s video game style and design philosophy — for example, he thinks in simplicity, and he doesn’t like to observe trends (which can also backfire).
The video also shares some little regarded specifics about Miyamoto and Nintendo. For example, his first video game, Donkey Kong, was impressed by Popeye. But given that Nintendo could not get the rights to Popeye, Miyamoto replaced the people with a gorilla, a carpenter (who would later turn into a plumber), and his girlfriend.
There are also some insights into how he got things erroneous. For example, Miyamoto was questioned again in the late 90s why he didn’t focus on on line multiplayer. Miyamoto stated that it was a “trend” and that he doesn’t want to chase trends. Of course, he was dead erroneous about that 1 — the “online trend” turned out to have the major impression on videogames in many years.
