I not too long ago facilitated a workshop for superior university physics instructors in South Africa (two workshops actually—one in Johannesburg and 1 in Cape Town). The target of the workshop was to introduce instructors to utilizing python in physics. Because this was my to start with python-physics workshop, I come to feel I really should share the information and some of the points I acquired.
This was a 4 hour workshop so I had lots of time (or so I thought) to permit the instructors in fact operate on some python code. I started off with an introduction and brief lecture on the standard notion of numerical calculations. Right after that, I would commence with some case in point code (perhaps entire or perhaps incomplete) and then give the instructors time to operate on some “homework” queries about that code.
You can come across all my workshop notes (with backlinks to code) in this Google doc. Indeed, I possibly really should have employed something other than a Google doc, but additional on that later on. But permit me go in excess of the standard define.
Once again, all of these starter programs are in the useful resource document. That document also is made up of a link to the presentation I employed in the workshop as nicely as other helpful backlinks.
As with any workshop, there are unanticipated problems that appear up. Right here are some of the points that I acquired from the two workshops.
Alright, some ultimate opinions. Initially, I would like to thank Mark Horner and Colleen Henning for their superb hospitality during my time in South Africa. 2nd, right before my trip all the things I understood about South Africa I acquired from Lethal Weapon two and District nine. Neither of these movies properly portray South Africa.
Last of all, right here is a picture of some penguins close to Cape Town.
