Yesterday afternoon, Nate Silver, the editor in main of the obsessive political polling web page FiveThirtyEight, tweeted two parallel-universe variations of the same electoral map. In 1, the US is divvied up into purple and blue states centered on election effects if only women voted.

In the hundreds of tweets and retweets that adopted, people today asked for other variations. What if just Millennials voted? What about just non-white people today? How about non-straight people today? Silver dismissed them all. That is when the Web stepped in.

(Sob.) Trump supporters created guaranteed that the hashtag #repealthe19th commenced trending—twitter-fueled jokes, or 50 %-jokes, or terrifying not-jokes, about getting away women’s ideal to vote. Amy Phillips, a spokeswoman for FiveThirtyEight, said the crew there was happy the map has generated as a lot interest and dialogue as it has. “While there have been various parodies, it looks that most people today have shared it in earnest.” Misogyny, guaranteed, but at the very least it was earnest misogyny.
